The books completely flips how the current world looks and what some people think of utopia is. The planet is run by intelligent apes who are vastly superior to the primitive humans they rule over. There is a sense of Dystopia for humans who then are in a position that they have never felt as they are no longer at the top of the animal chain. This is a shock to the system as human have always been the superior species and when they are no longer it becomes a state of misery and shock. It is interesting as even in the real world humans take for granted that they are the superior species and have not even considered a world where that is not the case.
